The lion marches and roars. [Describe what they’re listening for]

[music sample]

Like most marches, the time signature is 4/4. It makes you want to march – left, right, left, right!

[art]

This is in a minor key, which makes the lion sound more scary and fierce.

[art]

The march theme is played very loud (fortissimo) on the low strings.

[art]

Listen for the 6 big roars of the lion: they get louder (crescendo) then softer (decrescendo). Sometimes they’re played by the pianos, sometimes by the strings, and sometimes together.

[art]

LIsten for the two short lion growls in the strings. That sound is created by grace notes (quick short notes squashed in front of another note)
